The Help - movie time

This afternoon, my wonderful boss took our team to go see The Help. We were looking for a team activity to do, and we are having book club on Monday to discuss The Help (and eat some really good food). So, she thought it would be a great idea for us to go and check out the movie.
It was incredible. We laughed, we cried, and we had a good time. There of course were parts that were adapted differently to the screen, but the great thing was that they worked in the movie. There was excellent casting, and they really captured who we all pictured the characters in the book to be.

I heard someone comment that from the previews the movie looked too sunny and happy. I must say, as I watched the previews I did think the same thing, but when it came down to the actual film there were those tough, emotional scenes that were carried out very well. They captured the dark parts of the book that were needed to keep it real.

I can't wait til this is on dvd and I can sit on the couch and watch it again and again.

Pinterest Party

Last week some of the girls from work got together to each do a project we had pinned on one of our pinterest boards. If you haven't jumped on the pinterest bandwagon yet, please do so immediately. You will see hours of your time suddenly gone as you scroll through the beautiful pictures, but it's a happy time lapse.

For my project I did mini gumball machines out of a pot with saucer, a glass bowl, and wooden ball & bead.. I started off painting everything but the bowl red.
Then just a little E6000000 (I always forget how many 0s there should be, so I add a few extra for good measure) glue to hold everything together. I'm going to fill these up with some colorful gumballs and stick them on the kiddos table at the wedding.
Hayley, Iris, & Mia working hard on their projects.

Here we all are with our accomplishments. I did the gumball machines, Iris did some needlepoint (not on her pinterest, since she doesn't pin anything, but we like her so we forgive her), Kelly made the awesome t-shirt scraf she is wearing. At the top Adina is showing off the chalkboard cabinet door she painted, Hayley made a pennant banner for her wedding, and Mia is wearing the necklace and earrings she made!

Baked Explorations

I love the Baked cookbook. I'd have to say it has become my favorite. Everything I've tried from it has been pretty amazing. A while back the creators of Baked came out with a second cookbook Baked Explorations. I haven't yet purchased this one, as there were still a few things from the first one I wanted to do. But, the other day at the library I was browsing the cookbooks, and there it was.
Just waiting for me to take it home and try some things out. So, of course I picked it up, took it home and started looking through. I was trying to watch an episode of Lost at the same time and discovered that you can't read an amazing cookbook and stay tuned into Lost. The cookbook won out, and I came back to the show. I love what I've seen so far and can't wait to try some of the goodies out! I'll share the results here once I've done something yummy!

Another note, we are having a little pintrest challenge party tonight that I'm super excited about. We each chose a project that we pinned, and are creating it! I'll share the results of that as well!

The Help

I'm reading The Help by Kathryn Stockett...again
I read this one just over a year ago and loved it. It made me want to talk in a southern accent all the time and bake some yummy food (but not a chocolate pie). Since the movie is coming out next week I decided it's time for a refresher and picked up at the library again. I'm loving just as much the second time around. If you haven't had the chance to get to this one yet, please do it soon!

The Con is On

So, it's time for a little Comic Con fun. If you don't know what Comic Con is...well you've been missing out. It is the comic and pop culture to beat all comic and pop culture conventions. This is the fourth year my little bro and I have gone, and the second year the lil sis has tagged along with us. This year, she also brought her good friend Becca. Needless to say, my little 405 sq ft apartment was very full for those 5 days, but we made it through. Here are some highlights.
Sharks. I can't tell you how much shark paraphernalia we saw around comic con this year. They were doing promotion for Shark Night 3D and had a mechanical shark that we rode. One day you may get lucky enough to see that video.
Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn panel. Didn't see any clips of the movie (missed the start of the panel) but the cast chat was great!
Justin Timberlake (and Amanda Seyfried) promoting In Time. I think the movie looks great, Thomas does not, but I'm pretty sure I can get him there

The Hunger Games. Have you read this series yet? If not, drop whatever you have planned for the next day, get the book and you won't want to put it down. We were hoping for a panel, but had to settle for goodies. So, we scored some movie posters, but best of all we got mocking jay pins. I know you're jealous, huh? You should be. I think I might start wearing mine everyday.
Headbands. Here we are wearing the comic inspired headbands that we made.

True Blood - ok I guess I like vampires a lot. :) I was volunteering just before the True Blood panel, and they sent me to get a name plaque. When I got it and saw that it was Alexander Skarsgard I had to take a picture with it.
Hodads These burgers are awesome!
Mythbusters - always a good laugh
Glee! The girls got up at 6 and went to stand in line for this one, I slept in and joined them a couple hours later
